The Story So Far

Geographical Map of the Green Sea Region
Following the collapse of the Russian Empire due to the February Revolution of 1917. Chernarus, a large swath of land originally belonging to the ancient Skyth tribes in the Green Sea region, was given the state of an autonomic federal republic by the newly formed Soviet Union (U.S.S.R). Spanning from the russian-dominated Black Mountain region to the Takistan Deserts in the west and, now formally known as the Chernarussian Soviet Socialist Republic (C.S.S.R), the nation lay mostly in a silent underdeveloped state until the 1950s.

The country, now reeling from sweeping reform, began to see increasing protest of the current regime, rapidly escalating into riots in Chernogorsk and Novigrad. Which resulted in the 1985 forced-famine of the client state. Soon as a result small cliches of fighters formed into the Chernarus Independent Front (CIF). This group would continue to disrupt Soviet operations in the area by freeing prisoners, wrecking trains, and setting fire to ammunition depots.

In 1987 this would climax as CIF Forces would assassinate the local Soviet Governor of Chernarus Pavlos Nemitz, where a firefight would breakout between the fleeing CIF and Soviet Forces. When the dust settled 12 Soviets and 6 CIF lay dead. This sparked a mass mobilization of soviet forces to the region, leading to a long bloody insurgency.

By 1990, the CIF had captured a large swath of eastern Chernarus. Sensing the imminent collapse of the Soviet Union and noticing the dwindling organization of soviet forces, the CIF began a large push into the final eastern holdouts. In December of 1991, in the early hours of the 26th, as the CIF were driving out the last Soviet Forces. The Soviet Union Dissolved. The CIF Declared victory and became officially known as the Democratic Republic of Chernarus (DRC). Ivan Romanoff, The leader of the CIF, would become the first democratically elected leader in Chernarus History. Soon after Romanoff would seek UN Membership and was granted it only a year after taking office in 1992.
After a few years of peace, in 1993, the Russian State began making statements of historical ownership of Western Chernarus, and demanding resource rights to the region. Russia would begin moving border fences in the dead of night and demand that non-russian citizens could not cross. This would culminate in the later half of 1993 when current Russian President Boris Yelton would begin to amass troops along the Black Mountain border region with Chernarus while also sponsoring a pro-russian separatist movement called the Separatist Front of Chernarus (SFC)
This movement increasingly attacked CDF(Chernarus Defense Forces) Garrisons until it finally exploded as thousands of troops dawning SFC patches would flood the border in early 1994.

If the DRC Were to disband their armed forces and freeze the current frontline, SFC forces would immediately cease operations. The DRC, seeing no alternative, reluctantly disbanded the CDF - handing over the vehicles to the SFC in late 1995.
The year is now 1996. The UN has found a loophole in the Russian Peace Agreement where they may hold peacekeeping forces in place of the CDF, and thus now police the western region of Chernarus. Ivan Romanoffs’ term as the first president of Chernarus is ending and elections are coming up.
Although this was not the first conflict for the Chernarussian people, a short but ever-destructive conflict broke out quickly resulting in the deaths of over 40,000 Russians and over 23,000 Chernarussians. In the midst of the conflict, the UN began recommending sanctions against russia and would refuse to recognize the breakaway region, although it had no lasting impact. After SFC forces quickly took a large swath of land in the first few months. The conflict would ultimately come to a bloody standstill until the SFC would offer a peace agreement.
